Battered Bishop ...

St. Thomas Becket was killed by loyal knights who misinterpreted their king's words ...  they felt obliged to kill the bishop.

  2. Terry, I recommend "THOMAS: A Novel of the Life, Passion, and Miracles of Becket" by Shelley Mydans. Excellent read! I finally learned the difference between Thomas Becket and Thomas More, haha. At any rate, pretty compelling way to get immersed into the setting of that time. If we think there is high political drama going on today.... holy cow, things were crazy back then! I am in awe of the historians and hagiographers trying to make sense of all the players and who was reporting what and how on earth they knew what was factual. Love your posts, Terry. I often think about the Ethiopian Christians you observed from across the street. I wonder what happened to them. You told a beautiful story about their liturgy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    1. Thanks! I will check it out. Yes, his times were crazy!

The Ethiopians moved to a larger church, as you know. Seventh Day Adventists still own the church - an Evangelical group tried it out but didn't have enough to purchase the property. I still wish an SSPX group could buy it - don't tell anyone I said that though. ;)

      Happy Christmas and New Year!
