A most beautiful funeral.

  1. You can get him and your relatives a partial indulgence just by saying the sign of the cross as you make it.

  2. Much has been said about his demise. Some say "we lost an advocate on the bench." Others claim a more liberal court is on the horizon as a result of his death while other claim, "now that he's gone, who will support the Little Sisters of the Poor?"

I went to bed reflecting on this and smiled as I asked our Lord Jesus to grant Justice Scalia to intercede for the Little Sisters of the Poor on their behalf in His almighty and merciful presence.

I don't remember if it was Reuters or the New York Times that claims the Sisters have already lost the case. Let us pray with the great hope that the Sisters will be victorious in their pursuit of justice.

St. Thomas More, please intercede for the Little Sisters of the Poor! Amen

  3. Yes Terry it was a beautiful funeral. It reminds me of a bygone era, the golden age perhaps of American Catholicism. Those of a certain age can recall growing up in and with families that were what the Scalia's appear to be. A large close knit family with a stay at home mother and a father who their children not only admired but respected. This was the ideal that few could really achieve but everyone admired. Upon reflection it helps me see the value in conserving the best of the past. Although not conversative by nature or inclination I am grateful for and respect their contributions. We have a lot to learn from them. That disagreeing does not have to mean being disagreeable.

    1. I totally agree. It was beautifully celebrated - Fr. Scalia's homily was excellent doctrine on praying for the dead. What a great priest. What a great family. What a great man. Fr. Martin S.J. referred to the friendship between Scalia and Ginsberg earlier in the week as a model for just what you suggested, "disagreeing does not have to mean being disagreeable."
