I have searched the web for a larger reproduction and cannot find it. (I had seen one about a year ago.) If anyone has a link to a larger image, would you mind posting it for me? Many thanks.

ReplyDeleteMelody - yes - LOL! This is perhaps as difficult a theme as the paintings of the lactation of St. Bernard. Mystical stuff is so hard to illustrate.
ReplyDeleteYou have to approach art of this nature at the proper interpretive level. When you try to take it literally, quite naturally the reaction can be appalling.
ReplyDeleteAny time you try to convey any one thing poetically or metaphorically you run this risk. It's what got Chardin in trouble.
When I first looked at this I thought you had zoomed in to part of the Last Judgment on the walls of the Sistene Chapel. Must've been the bright blue. Don't think I've seen this painting before.
